Margaret raised one hand.

Tiffany stopped.

Margaret looked at her.
"That is your excuse?"
"I thought you were staff."
Margaret's eyes hardened.
"And if I had been?"
Tiffany couldn't answer.
"Would that have made the slap acceptable?"
"No."
"Would you have apologized?"
Tiffany's silence was enough.
Margaret nodded.
"That's what I thought."
Tiffany's eyes filled with tears.
"Please. Don't destroy my wedding."
Margaret looked around the ballroom.
"No, Tiffany."
Her voice was quiet.
"I am not destroying your wedding."
