Chapter 12 - A FATHER TAKEN TWICEAvery nearly destroyed the operation searching for Thomas.
Hayes stopped her.
“Anger is exactly what Cross expects.”
Avery stared at the blood.
“That's my father.”
“I know.”
“No. You know Admiral Mitchell. I know the man who disappeared from my life for six years.”
That distinction silenced Hayes.
Briggs arrived with intelligence from Cross.
Thomas had been taken to an abandoned industrial property outside Fayetteville.
Avery wanted to move immediately.
Vance refused.
They needed proof tying Cross directly to the kidnapping.
Without it, Cross would claim rogue Black Meridian survivors acted independently.
So Briggs returned to Cross.
Cross congratulated him.
Then ordered him to execute Thomas Mitchell personally.
For the first time since entering the undercover operation, Briggs became visibly afraid.
Cross handed him a pistol.
“Consider this your graduation.”
May you like
Briggs accepted it.
And walked toward the warehouse where Avery’s father waited.
