The disciplinary board eventually ruled on Briggs.
His cooperation mattered.
His courage mattered.
But so did his original actions.
He lost his position.
His military career ended.
Briggs accepted the decision without protest.
Avery met him outside the hearing.
“What now?”
He shrugged.
“Figure out who Ryan Briggs is when nobody has to salute him.”
Avery extended her hand.
Briggs stared at it.
Then shook it.
