Chapter 16 - THE LAST FIGHT IN THE RINGAvery entered alone.

Cross forced her to discard her weapon.

Five hundred empty seats watched silently.

Thomas knelt at the center.

Cross blamed him for everything.

Years of lost profits.

Compromised operations.

Dead assets.

Then he blamed Avery.

“You could have stayed quiet.”

Avery almost laughed.

“That seems to be everybody’s problem with me.”

Cross ordered her onto her knees.

She obeyed.

Then Thomas moved.

He drove his shoulder into Cross.

The pistol fired.

Avery attacked.

Cross was older but experienced.

He struck Avery’s damaged ribs.

Pain nearly dropped her.

He hit her again.

Then Briggs appeared at the edge of the ring.

Cross aimed at him.

Avery caught his wrist.

They struggled.

Cross hissed:

“You think exposing me fixes anything? Black Meridian isn't an organization.”

Avery twisted harder.

“What is it?”

Cross smiled through the pain.

“An idea.”

Briggs entered the ring.

Together, he and Avery disarmed Cross.

Military police flooded the field.

Cross was cuffed.

But his final words followed Avery long after he disappeared.

“You haven't found the beginning.”
