Chapter 1 - The Night They Took My BedroomThe night my husband told me to sleep in the shed, I finally understood that my marriage had ended long before anyone said the word divorce.

Rain tapped softly against the enormous glass walls of the villa, turning the garden into a dark mirror beneath the silver moonlight. Inside, laughter echoed through rooms that I had paid for, decorated, and protected for years.
My husband, Trevor, stood in the hallway with his arms crossed.
His mother, Evelyn, was behind him.
And surrounding them were cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and distant relatives I barely knew.
Nearly twenty people had invaded my home.
My home.
The villa had been purchased before my marriage. I had paid for it in cash through a private company I owned. Every document was legal. Every payment was recorded.
But none of that mattered to Trevor anymore.
He looked at me as though I were an unwanted guest.
“You can sleep in the garden shed tonight,” he said.
For a second, I thought he was joking.
Then Evelyn smiled.
“It's actually quite peaceful out there,” she said. “You should learn to be more flexible, Allison.”
I looked around the bedroom.
My bedroom.
My photographs were still on the nightstand. My books were still arranged beside the window. My silk robe hung inside the closet.
And suddenly, Trevor walked over and picked up my suitcase.
He threw it into the hallway.
“Your family needs the rooms,” he said.
That sentence broke something inside me.
Not because of the suitcase.
Not because of the shed.
But because I realized he no longer saw me as his wife.
He saw me as an obstacle.
So I picked up my laptop.
I walked outside.
And I didn't argue.
Because I had already made my decision.

Tonight, they thought they had won.
They had no idea what I was about to do.
