Chapter 19 - The Knock at the GateLate that night, after everyone left, I walked through the quiet garden.

The house was warm.
The greenhouse lights were glowing.
Then I heard it.
A knock.
Not on the front door.
At the estate gate.
I frowned.
It was nearly midnight.
I checked the security monitor.
A black sedan was parked outside.
Someone stood beside it.
A man.
I couldn't see his face clearly.
Then the security camera zoomed in.
My heart stopped.
It was Trevor.
He looked different.
Older.
Thinner.
But calmer.
He wasn't drunk.
He wasn't shouting.
He wasn't demanding anything.
He simply stood there.
Then my phone rang.
Trevor.
I stared at the screen.
For a moment, I considered ignoring it.
But something inside me said that I should answer.
“Why are you here?”
There was a long silence.
“I don't want the house,” he said.
“I don't want your money.”
Another pause.
“I just wanted to tell you something in person.”
“What?”
His voice became quieter.
“I finally became the man I promised you I would be.”
May you like
I closed my eyes.
The past suddenly felt very far away.
