Chapter 9 - Fifteen MinutesThe commander read the documents carefully.

Then he looked at the family.

“You have fifteen minutes to collect your personal belongings and leave the property.”

Evelyn exploded.

“This is outrageous!”

No one answered.

She turned toward Trevor.

“Do something!”

Trevor looked helplessly at his mother.

For years, she had treated him like a powerful man.

Now everyone could see the truth.

He wasn't powerful.

He had simply been protected.

Protected by his mother.

Protected by my money.

Protected by my patience.

The relatives began gathering their belongings.

Some avoided looking at me.

Others whispered apologies.

One woman quietly said, “We didn't know.”

I looked at her.

“You never asked.”

She lowered her eyes.

That was the problem.

Nobody had asked.

They had simply assumed.

Assumed the house was Trevor's.

Assumed my money belonged to the family.

Assumed my silence meant permission.

Now the assumptions were collapsing one by one.
