Chapter 4 - Greg Had Mortgaged Their Home
The deed created another problem.
A title search showed a mortgage recorded against the mansion eighteen
months earlier.
Borrower:
Lake Crest Holdings LLC.
Managing member:
Greg Lawson.
Diane’s husband.
Ryan stared at the amount.
$1.8 million.
“That can’t be real.”
Margaret agreed.
“It should not have been possible without trust authorization.”
Greg stood in the dining room with his arms crossed.
He insisted the mortgage was legitimate.
“Caroline wanted Diane to have the house.”
Margaret answered:
“Caroline did not own the house.”
“She lived here for years.”
“That did not make it hers.”
Greg claimed Matthew had promised the property would eventually remain
with Diane’s side of the family.
Ryan asked:
“Where is that promise?”
Greg had no document.
Then Margaret found the mortgage authorization.
It carried Ryan’s signature.
Ryan laughed once.
“I never signed this.”
