Chapter 9 - A Hidden Account Changes Everything

The mortgage money had not gone into home repairs.

A forensic accountant traced it.

$420,000 went toward Greg’s failing construction company.

$300,000 paid personal tax debt.

Nearly $600,000 moved into an investment account controlled jointly by

Greg and Diane.

Another portion paid for renovations to the mansion.

Diane pointed to that.

“See? We invested in the property.”

Ryan answered:

“With money borrowed against a house you did not own.”

The remaining funds were harder to explain.

Then the accountant found a second account.

For years, rental income from the mansion’s guest cottage and dock had

been deposited there.

More than $370,000.

Ryan had never seen any of it.

Neither had Noah’s trust.

Diane called the money maintenance reimbursement.

The records showed luxury travel, jewelry, private-school tuition for

Ashley, and personal credit-card payments.

The jewelry box suddenly looked almost symbolic.

It had hidden the documents proving ownership while Diane used the

property to fund a life built around pretending she owned it.
