Chapter 5 - Ryan Finds the Forged Signature

A document examiner later reviewed the mortgage authorization.
Ryan’s signature had been copied from an unrelated insurance document.
The image was identical down to a tiny break in the letter R.
The mortgage paperwork also contained a trustee certification supposedly
signed by Margaret.
Margaret had never signed it.
The lender had relied on documents that appeared valid.
That meant unwinding the mortgage would take time.
It also meant someone had gone much further than hiding a letter.
Ryan asked Diane directly:
“Did you forge this?”
“No.”
“Did Greg?”
“No.”
“Then who?”
Diane looked away.
Greg snapped:
“Stop answering him.”
Ryan turned.
“You mortgaged a house that belonged to two people you never told.”
Greg stepped forward.
Margaret stopped him with one sentence.
“If you threaten another beneficiary in front of witnesses, I will
document that too.”
Greg froze.
For the first time, Ryan realized the power in the room had changed.

Not because he was stronger.
Because the paperwork was finally speaking.
