Chapter 8 - The Missing FileDr. Mercer placed a folder on the table.

Inside was an original donor profile.

Male.

Age thirty-one at the time of donation.

Brown eyes.

Dark hair.

Blood type O-positive.

I read the information.

Then I saw the name.

Not a donor number.

A name.

Ethan Hale.

I looked up.

"Who is this?"

Dr. Mercer took a breath.

"We don't know why this name is attached to your daughter's file."

"Is he the biological father?"

"We believe so."

My hands went numb.

"Where is he?"

"We don't know."

"Then why does his name appear here?"

"Because someone changed the donor record."

"Who?"

Dr. Mercer shook her head.

"We're investigating."

Then she handed me another document.

A signature appeared at the bottom.

Grant's.

I stared at it.

My husband had signed a form authorizing the use of Ethan Hale's genetic material.

I felt betrayed all over again.

But then I noticed the date.

Grant had signed it six years ago.

Three days before Lily's treatment.

And suddenly I realized something terrifying.

May you like

Grant hadn't lied about the donor.

He had lied about something much bigger.
