Chapter 9 - Grant's ConfessionGrant finally confessed.

He had known Ethan Hale.
Not personally.
But Ethan had been a friend of Grant's father.
Years earlier, Ethan had donated sperm to the clinic.
Grant's father had also been treated there.
And Grant had discovered a hidden family connection.
"Ethan was my father's biological son," Grant said.
I stared at him.
"Your half-brother?"
"Yes."
The room seemed to tilt.
Grant had chosen a donor who shared his father's genetics.
He had believed it would make Lily genetically connected to his family.
"But why keep this from me?"
"Because I was ashamed."
"You let me believe Lily was naturally yours."
"I wanted to be her father."
"You are her father."
His eyes filled with tears.
"I know. But I wanted the blood too."
For the first time, I understood his desperation.
But understanding did not erase the betrayal.
Then Grant whispered:
"There is one thing I haven't told you."
May you like
I waited.
"Ethan isn't missing."
