Chapter 10 - THE TRAPVictoria returned to the city.
She knew Julian was investigating.
So she changed tactics.
She contacted Clara.
We need to talk. Alone.
Clara refused.
Victoria sent another message.
You want to know what happened to our mother?
Clara's heart stopped.
She agreed to meet.
An abandoned theater stood at the edge of downtown.
Rain hammered the broken windows.
Victoria waited beneath the stage lights.
"You came."
Clara looked around.
"Where's our mother?"
Victoria laughed softly.
"You still believe she might be alive?"
Clara's face tightened.
"What do you know?"
Victoria stepped closer.
"Our mother tried to save you."
Clara's eyes filled.
"From whom?"
Victoria whispered:
"From our father."
Clara froze.
The story was changing again.
Before she could ask another question, the doors slammed shut.
Someone had locked them inside.
Then gasoline began spreading across the floor.
Victoria stared at Clara.
For the first time, genuine fear appeared in her eyes.
"This wasn't my plan."
