Chapter 19 - THE LAST SECRETThey didn't chase Marcus immediately.
For the first time, Clara refused to let fear control her.
"We have a family now," she said.
Julian agreed.
But three weeks later, a package arrived.
Inside was a photograph.
Marcus Vale stood outside an unknown building.
Beside him was another man.
Julian recognized him.
His father.
But the photograph had been taken only eight months earlier.
Richard Sterling had supposedly been dead for six years.
Clara stared at the picture.
"This can't be real."
Julian felt a chill.
Maybe the old empire had never truly died.
Maybe someone had been moving pieces from the shadows.
Then Clara noticed something else.
On the back of the photograph was a handwritten message.
You found your family.
Below it:
Now find out why I took you.
Clara looked at Julian.
The fear was gone.
In its place was determination.
"Whatever happened twenty years ago..."
