He walked into his private study and closed the doors.
Clara remained outside with Leo.
The mansion suddenly felt different.
Colder.
Julian opened the encrypted file.
The first page contained Clara's name.
CLARA BENNETT.
Age: 27.
Employment history: normal.
Education: normal.
Criminal record: none.
But beneath that was another section.
Biological family history: SEALED.
Julian frowned.
He opened the DNA report.
His eyes stopped moving.
For several seconds, he simply stared.
Then he whispered:
"Impossible."
The investigator's message followed.
There is a familial connection between Clara Bennett and Victoria Vale.
Julian leaned back.
That explained Victoria's words.
But not everything.
A second document appeared.
Potential biological relationship: SIBLINGS.
Julian's blood ran cold.
Why would two women from completely different worlds be sisters?
And why had Clara spent years believing she was an orphan?
He immediately called his investigator.
"Tell me everything."
The voice on the other end was cautious.
"We traced Clara's records. Her birth certificate was altered."
Julian's eyes hardened.
"By whom?"
"We don't know yet."
"Find out."
"There is more."
Julian waited.
"The original records suggest Clara wasn't abandoned."
Julian stood.
"Then what happened to her?"
