Chapter 3 - THE EMPEROR'S VERDICTJulian walked forward.

Every step echoed against the marble.

Victoria's confidence collapsed.

"Julian, darling, you're misunderstanding—"

"Don't."

One word.

It stopped her.

Julian looked at Leo.

The baby's tiny face was red from crying.

Then he looked at Clara.

She was shaking.

"Are you hurt?"

Clara swallowed.

"I'm fine."

"That's not what I asked."

She hesitated.

"My shoulder."

Julian's jaw tightened.

Then he looked at Victoria.

"You dropped my son."

Victoria's eyes filled with sudden tears.

"That isn't what happened."

"You let him fall."

"I was startled."

"You were holding him."

"I—"

Julian stepped closer.

His voice became colder.

"I saw you."

Victoria's expression changed.

She understood.

There would be no lie powerful enough to save her.

Julian turned to security.

"Get her out."

Victoria stared at him.

"You can't do this."

"Watch me."

She screamed.

"You need me!"

Julian didn't blink.

"No."

He looked at the guards.

"From this moment forward, Victoria Vale has no access to this property."

The guards grabbed her arms.

As they dragged her toward the door, she suddenly stopped.

She looked at Clara.

The fury in her eyes was terrifying.

Then she smiled.

Not a frightened smile.

A secret smile.

"He doesn't know who you really are, does he?"

Clara froze.

Victoria mouthed two words.

"My sister."

The doors slammed shut.

Julian stared at Clara.

"What did she mean?"

Clara's face had gone pale.

"I don't know."

Julian's phone vibrated.

He looked at the screen.

A message from his private investigator.

DNA RESULTS ARE IN.

Then another message appeared.
