Chapter 29 - THE CONFESSION BEFORE THE CRASH

The air in the boardroom was thick enough to choke on. Outside, lightning shattered the clouds, illuminating the seventy-fifth-floor glass dome in a blinding flash of violet light.
"You think you're clever, Clara?" Victoria hissed, stepping away from the table, her gun pointed directly at Noah's forehead. "You think carrying a bomb makes you a savior? This entire building is surrounded! My private security forces have sealed every exit, every stairwell, every elevator shaft! You walked into a slaughterhouse!"
"No, Victoria," a voice echoed through the boardroom speakers.
Julian Sterling stepped out of the shadows of the executive private balcony, drenched in rainwater, holding an MP5 submachine gun. Behind him, leaning against the doorframe with a smoking tactical rifle, stood Daniel, pale as death, his torso heavily bound, but his eyes blazing with cold fury.
The board members gasped.
"Julian..." the Swiss investor whispered, raising his hands in surrender. "We were told you were dead!"
"You were told what a sociopath wanted you to hear, Herr Vance," Julian said coldly, keeping his weapon trained on Victoria. "The Marshals never lost the ship. We tracked your boarding craft back to your private heliport three miles south. The FBI Hostage Rescue Team is breaching the ground floor right now."
Victoria looked frantically from Julian to Daniel, then to Eleanor, and finally to Clara and Noah.
She was surrounded. Her empire, her carefully orchestrated web of lies spanning fifteen years, had unraveled in a single room.
"It doesn't matter," Victoria laughed, a high, broken, hysterical sound that sent shivers down Clara’s spine. "It doesn't matter what the FBI has! The server link is active! Look at the screens!"
On the massive wall display, a digital transfer progress bar reached ninety-eight percent.
"The moment that bar hits one hundred," Victoria gloated, her eyes bulging with madness, "two hundred billion dollars in offshore assets vanish into an untraceable blockchain account in Macau! The Vanguard Trust dissolves! I disappear, and you all spend the rest of your lives fighting federal indictments!"
"Noah," Eleanor whispered softly, kneeling beside the boy. "Press the red button on Mommy's phone."
Noah, his eyes wide, reached into Clara's pocket and tapped the touchscreen of the burner phone Daniel had given them.
A metallic click resonated from the briefcase on the conference table.
The transfer bar suddenly stopped at ninety-nine percent.
The screen turned pitch black.
Then, in giant, blood-red letters, a single line of text flashed across the forty-foot display:
**CHIMERA PROTOCOL REVERSED. MASTER OVERRIDE INITIATED BY CREATOR: ELEANOR STERLING.**
A series of high-definition audio files began broadcasting through the boardroom's sound system. It was Victoria’s voice, recorded five years ago, coolly ordering the detonation of Julian's yacht, detailing the exact offshore wire transfers to Detective Miller, and authorizing the illegal human trials on thirty-two terminal patients in South America.
The Swiss billionaire collapsed back into his chair, burying his face in his hands. "My god... it's all there. Every transaction."
"You... old... bitch!" Victoria screamed, swinging her gold pistol toward Eleanor.
*BANG.*
Clara didn't wait for Julian or Daniel to fire.
She dropped the shotgun, lunged forward with blinding speed, and tackled Victoria across the Brazilian walnut conference table.
Crystal glasses, silver water carafes, and the master briefcase went flying across the floor, shattering into a million pieces. The two women crashed onto the hardwood, rolling violently toward the massive floor-to-ceiling glass wall.
Victoria clawed at Clara's face, her manicured nails digging deep into Clara's cheek. "I will kill him! I will kill your son with my bare hands!"
Clara caught Victoria's injured right shoulder, digging her thumbs directly into the fresh bullet wound with brutal, unrelenting force. Victoria shrieked in agony, her grip loosening on the pistol. Clara ripped the gun from her fingers and drove the heavy steel butt of the weapon directly into Victoria’s jaw.
The socialite’s head snapped back, her eyes rolling back as she slumped against the glass pane.
Silence fell over the boardroom, broken only by Clara's ragged, gasping breaths.
Clara stood up, her face streaked with sweat, rain, and blood. She turned toward Daniel and Julian, tears filling her eyes.
"It's over," Clara whispered.

And then, the sound of tearing metal and a low, terrifying electronic hum began vibrating from the floor beneath their feet.
