Chapter 10 - The Red FolderRyan had also created a list.

Names.
Secrets.
Debts.
Divorces.
Addictions.
Financial problems.
Everything he could use against people.
He called them pressure points.
One name belonged to my father.
Another belonged to Jenna Cole, Ryan's former assistant.
Jenna finally came forward.
She had emails.
Threatening voicemails.
Documents Ryan had ordered her to forge.
One message said:
Make the signature cleaner this time.
Another:
Emily doesn't need to know until it's finished.
Then Jenna revealed something horrifying.
Ryan had asked a private investigator for a quote to “secure child” if I resisted.
Diane, Ryan's mother, had hidden a red folder containing more evidence.
She eventually handed it over.
Inside were records proving Ryan had been collecting vulnerabilities for years.
My page was titled:
EMILY PRESSURE.
Underneath:
Lily.
Charles.
Mental health.
Money.
Reputation.
I stared at the list.
He had reduced my entire life to buttons he could push.
Then Detective Ruiz found another note.
NEXT TIME, MAKE SURE SHE HAS NOWHERE TO GO.
I finally understood.

Ryan hadn't been preparing for our divorce.
He had been preparing for my disappearance from my own life.
