Chapter 1 - The Woman He Chose to BelieveThe rain came down over Manhattan like a curtain of silver, turning the streets outside the Whitmore penthouse into a blur of headlights and reflections.

Inside, everything was silent.
Too silent.
Evelyn Whitmore stood barefoot beside the enormous glass windows, still wearing the ivory dress she had chosen for her husband's anniversary dinner. On the table behind her, two untouched glasses of champagne waited beneath the soft glow of the chandelier.
Her husband, Alexander Whitmore, had not come home for dinner.
Again.
For seven years, Evelyn had been the woman behind the most powerful billionaire in New York.
She had stood beside him when his company nearly collapsed.
She had sold her jewelry to help him cover payroll.
She had stayed awake beside his hospital bed when he was injured in a car accident.
She had loved him when he had nothing.
But tonight, Alexander had finally returned.
And he had not come alone.
A woman in a crimson dress stepped into the penthouse behind him.
She was beautiful.
Elegant.
And strangely familiar.
Alexander's expression was colder than Evelyn had ever seen.
"Evelyn," he said, "we need to talk."
Her heart sank.
The woman beside him lowered her eyes as if she were frightened.
Then she whispered,
"Alexander... maybe we shouldn't."
Evelyn stared at her.
And suddenly, she understood.
This woman had already told him a story.
A story about Evelyn.

A story that Alexander believed.
And before the night was over, her husband would accuse her of betraying the very man she had spent seven years protecting.
