It was nothing like the penthouse.
There were no marble floors.
No private elevator.
No breathtaking skyline.
But for the first time in years, she could breathe.
Three days later, a package arrived.
There was no return address.
Inside was an old envelope.
Her name was written across it.
Evelyn.
She opened it.
The letter was from Alexander's father, Richard Whitmore, who had died two years earlier.
Evelyn had never seen it.
The letter contained only one warning:
"If Victoria Hale ever returns, don't trust what she tells my son."
Evelyn's blood ran cold.
Then she read the final sentence.
"She is not coming back for Alexander. She is coming back for the Whitmore fortune."
Evelyn sat motionless.
Suddenly, everything changed.

The pregnancy.
