Smoke filled the hallway.
The children were separated from their parents.
Noah grabbed Lily's hand.
“Stay with me!”
They ran through the hidden passage.
Behind them, flames climbed the walls.
The same nightmare was happening again.
But this time, Noah refused to run blindly.
He remembered the mansion's old blueprint.
There was a tunnel beneath the wine cellar leading directly to the river.
He led Lily through it.
Halfway down the tunnel, they heard footsteps.
Someone was following them.
Noah turned.
Vanessa stood there.
She was bleeding.
“Keep moving,” she said.
Noah stared at her.
“Why should we trust you?”
Vanessa looked back toward the flames.
“Because I finally understand something.”
“What?”
“I was never the person controlling this family.”
