She appeared behind him.
“What's happening?”
Vanessa turned.
Her expression hardened.
She grabbed Lily and shoved her against the wall.
A glass bottle rested in Vanessa's hand.
Lily whimpered.
Noah immediately stepped between them.
“Let her go!”
Vanessa raised the bottle.
“Dead children keep secrets best.”
Noah covered Lily with his body.
“You already stole our father. You won't take her too.”
Vanessa grabbed Noah's chin.
Her fingers were ice cold.
“Say that again…”
She leaned closer.
“…and your mother dies first.”
Noah froze.
Not because of the threat.
Because of the words.
His mother.
Dies.
First.
His eyes widened.
“You said… dies.”
Vanessa realized her mistake.
For the first time, fear appeared in her eyes.
Noah understood.
His mother wasn't dead.
She was alive.
