Chapter 7 - The Room Beneath the MansionThe passage ended at a steel door.
There was a keypad.
Noah remembered the date of his mother's birthday.
He entered the numbers.
The door opened.
Inside was a small room filled with medical equipment.
There were photographs.
Documents.
Medication bottles.
And a hospital bed.
Lily covered her mouth.
“This is where she was.”
Noah walked toward the bed.
There was a silver bracelet lying on the pillow.
His mother's bracelet.
Suddenly, footsteps echoed behind them.
Noah grabbed Lily.
They hid beneath a metal table.
The door opened.
Vanessa entered.
But she wasn't alone.
A man stood beside her.
The family doctor.
Dr. Mercer.
Noah held his breath.
“We can't keep her here forever,” the doctor whispered.
Vanessa replied:
“We don't have to.”
“What about the children?”
Vanessa looked toward the empty bed.
“Once the estate is transferred, they become irrelevant.”
Noah's stomach twisted.
Estate?
