Chapter 10 - THE BETRAYALDaniel had always trusted Michael.
He had been at their wedding.
He had held Emma when she was born.
He had called himself Uncle Michael.
Now he stood in the church holding a gun.
Daniel moved in front of Emma.
“Why?”
Michael's face was wet with tears.
“I didn't want this.”
“You betrayed Rachel.”
“I was threatened.”
“So were we!”
Michael's hands shook.
“They had my son.”
Daniel froze.
“What?”
“They took my boy.”
Michael lowered the gun.
“They told me if I didn't cooperate, I'd never see him again.”
Marcus stepped forward.
“Where is he?”
Michael looked at him.
“Alive.”
“Where?”
“I don't know.”
Daniel stared at Michael.
“You gave them Rachel.”
“I gave them information.”
“And they almost killed your sister.”
Michael broke down.
“I know.”
Silence filled the church.
Then Michael handed Marcus a phone.
“There is one more thing.”
He looked at Daniel.
“Rachel wasn't captured.”
Daniel's heart jumped.
“Where is she?”
Michael whispered:
“She went after the people who took my son.”
Daniel realized what Rachel had done.
She hadn't disappeared.
She had gone back into the darkness to save another child.
And now she was trapped there.
Daniel took a breath.
“We're going to get them both.”
Marcus nodded.
But Michael looked terrified.
“You don't understand.”
“What?”
“The man behind all of this knows you.”
Daniel frowned.
“Who?”
