Chapter 12 - TRAPPEDDarkness swallowed the building.
Daniel heard footsteps.
Marcus shouted:
“Stay together!”
A gunshot exploded.
Michael pulled his son behind a metal container.
Daniel grabbed Emma.
Cooper barked furiously.
Then emergency lights flickered on.
Red.
Everything looked like blood.
Men moved through the factory.
Marcus fought his way toward the exit.
Daniel carried Emma.
They ran.
One man grabbed Daniel.
Cooper attacked.
The dog bit his arm.
Daniel broke free.
They reached a side door.
Locked.
Then Daniel saw something.
A control panel.
He remembered something Rachel had taught him years ago.
“Sometimes the emergency system overrides the main lock.”
He opened the panel.
Pulled two wires.
The door clicked.
Everyone ran.
Outside, police sirens filled the night.
Marcus looked relieved.
But Daniel knew it wasn't over.
Richard had escaped.
And Rachel was still missing.
Then Daniel's phone rang.
Unknown number.
He answered.
“Daniel.”
Rachel's voice.
His entire body went still.
“Rachel?”
“Listen carefully.”
“Where are you?”
“I can't tell you.”
“Emma is here.”
Silence.
Then Rachel whispered:
“Let me hear her.”
Daniel handed the phone to Emma.
“Mommy?”
Rachel began crying.
“Baby.”
“Come home.”
“I will.”
“When?”
Rachel paused.
“Soon.”
The call ended.
Daniel stared at the phone.
Then he noticed a strange sound behind the voice.
Water.
Running water.
A train horn.

He looked at Marcus.
“I know where she is.”
