Chapter 13 - THE RIVER WAREHOUSEThe old warehouse stood beside the river.

Fog rolled across the water.
Police surrounded the area.
Daniel insisted on going inside.
Marcus stopped him.
“You stay with the police.”
“No.”
“Daniel—”
“My wife is in there.”
Marcus sighed.
“You're going to get yourself killed.”
Daniel looked at him.
“Then make sure I don't.”
They entered through a side door.
Inside, the warehouse was enormous.
Empty.
Except for one chair.
And Rachel.
She was tied to it.
Daniel's heart shattered.
“Rachel!”
Her eyes widened.
“Daniel?”
He ran toward her.
Marcus stopped.
“Wait.”
A red light blinked above them.
Trap.
Richard stepped from the shadows.
He held a remote.
“You always were predictable.”
Daniel stared at him.
“Let her go.”
Richard smiled.
“You've cost me millions.”
“You almost killed my daughter.”
Richard's expression changed.
“And that was your mistake.”
Daniel moved forward.
“You don't touch her again.”
Richard raised the remote.
Rachel screamed:
“Daniel, don't!”
Then gunfire erupted outside.
Police stormed the warehouse.
Richard ran.
Marcus chased him.
Daniel freed Rachel.
They held each other.
For a moment, the entire world disappeared.
Rachel cried against his chest.
“I thought I'd never see you again.”
Daniel whispered:
“You're home.”
Then an explosion shook the building.
Richard had triggered the destruction of the warehouse.
Fire spread rapidly.
Daniel grabbed Rachel's hand.
“Run!”
They escaped seconds before the roof collapsed.
Outside, beneath the flashing police lights, Rachel looked at Emma.
Mother and daughter ran toward each other.
Daniel watched them embrace.
For the first time in months—
May you like
his family was together.
But Richard was still missing.
