Chapter 34 - The WarehouseDavid arrived at the warehouse.

He ignored the instructions.
Miller was hidden nearby.
Police surrounded the building.
David entered through the front door.
Darkness.
Metal.
Silence.
Then he heard crying.
“Maya!”
He ran toward the sound.
A small room opened ahead.
Maya was there.
Safe.
Alive.
But someone was standing beside her.
Clara.
David stopped.
“What are you doing?”
Clara slowly turned.
“I saved her.”
David stared.
“What?”
“Your mother wasn't the one who took Maya.”
Clara pointed behind him.
David turned.
Thomas stood in the doorway.
A gun in his hand.
“You always were your father's son.”
David stepped between Thomas and Maya.
Thomas smiled.
“Give me the documents.”
“I don't have them.”
“You do.”
David shook his head.
“You're wrong.”
Thomas raised the gun.
“Then I'll take them from Leah.”
David froze.
Thomas smiled.
“You see, David?”
“This was never about your mother.”
“This was never about Emily.”
“It was always about you.”
Suddenly, police lights flooded the warehouse.
Thomas turned.
Miller shouted:
“DROP THE WEAPON!”
Thomas hesitated.
Then Clara stepped forward.
“You're finished.”
May you like
Thomas lowered the gun.
And for the first time in thirty years, the family secret began to collapse.
