Chapter 25 - The Girl Who SurvivedThe recording revealed a story David had never heard.

Emily had become dangerously ill as a baby.
His father wanted to take her to the hospital.
His mother refused.
She believed doctors were trying to take control away from her.
When Emily became unconscious, David's father called for help.
But by the time the ambulance arrived, Emily was gone.
His father blamed his mother.
He threatened to expose her.
Then he discovered something worse.
Someone had taken Emily from the hospital.
A woman claiming to be a social worker.
There was no record of her employment.
No official identification.
She simply disappeared with the baby.
David's father began investigating.
And then his car crashed.
David had always been told it was an accident.
The tape suggested otherwise.
His father's final words were:
“If I die, look for the name Clara.”
The tape stopped.
David stared at the machine.
“Clara?”
Miller looked at him.
“That's the first time I've heard that name.”
Leah suddenly spoke.
“Maybe Clara isn't a place.”
May you like
David looked at her.
“Maybe it's a person.”
