Chapter 10 - The Second WarningThat night, Margaret stayed with Lily at the hospital.
At 2:13 A.M., her phone vibrated.
Unknown number.
She answered.
Silence.
Then a man's voice.
“You should stop asking questions.”
Margaret sat upright.
“Who is this?”
“Your son made a mistake.”
“What did you do to my granddaughter?”
A pause.
“Nothing.”
Margaret's grip tightened.
“Then why threaten me?”
The caller laughed softly.
“Because the next time, there may not be a grandmother nearby.”
The line went dead.
Margaret immediately called Officer Cole.
But when police arrived, there was no trace of the caller.
Then Lily woke up screaming.
“Grandma!”
Margaret rushed to her.
Lily pointed toward the hospital window.
“He's outside.”
Margaret turned.
Across the parking lot stood a man in a dark jacket.
