Chapter 12 - The TrapOfficer Cole devised a plan.
They would leak false information.
Daniel would pretend to leave town with Lily.
The information would be impossible for outsiders to know unless someone was monitoring them.
That night, the family appeared to leave through the hospital's main entrance.
But the vehicle was empty.
Inside an unmarked police car nearby, Margaret watched.
Her hands trembled.
Daniel sat beside her.
“I’m sorry, Mom.”
She didn't look at him.
“You should be.”
“I was stupid.”
“Yes.”
“I was scared.”
Margaret finally looked at him.
“Being scared doesn't make you a monster. What you do because you're scared does.”
Daniel nodded.
Then the radio crackled.
“Movement at the decoy location.”
Officer Cole looked at them.
“We got him.”
But Margaret noticed something.
The suspect wasn't approaching the decoy car.
