He reached the parking garage.
Rain poured outside.
Margaret watched from behind the glass.
Victor stopped.
Officer Cole shouted:
“Drop the weapon!”
Victor turned.
For one terrifying second, everything froze.
Then he lowered it.
“I never wanted to hurt the child,” he said.
“You endangered her.”
Victor looked toward Daniel.
“He was already destroying himself.”
Daniel stepped forward.
“No more.”
Victor smiled bitterly.
“You think this ends here?”
Officer Cole arrested him.
As Victor was taken away, Daniel looked toward his mother.
“I can't undo what happened.”
Margaret shook her head.
“No.”
“But I can spend the rest of my life making sure Lily knows she was never the problem.”
