Chapter 2 - The Door That Wouldn't OpenThe hallway upstairs was dark.

The storm had knocked out half the neighborhood's power, leaving only the emergency lights downstairs.

Margaret walked toward Lily's bedroom.

The closer she got, the louder the sound became.

“Grandma!”

Margaret's hand flew to the doorknob.

“Lily!”

“Grandma!”

She tried the handle.

Locked.

“Daniel!”

Her son appeared at the end of the hallway.

“Open the door.”

“I told you she's fine.”

“Open it.”

Daniel didn't move.

Then Margaret heard something else.

Water.

A low rushing sound.

She looked down.

A thin stream of water was creeping beneath the bedroom door.

Margaret's face went pale.

“Daniel…”

He stared at the water.

For the first time, he had no answer.

Margaret slammed her shoulder against the door.

Once.

Twice.

The wood groaned.

“Move!”

Daniel stepped forward.

“Mom, stop!”

She turned toward him.

“If you don't open this door right now, I swear to God, I will break it down.”

Another cry came from inside.

“Grandma!”

Margaret hit the door again.

The lock splintered.

May you like

The door swung open.

And Margaret screamed.
