Chapter 13 - The Man in the HallwayThe hospital went into lockdown.

Doors slammed shut.
Security officers flooded the corridors.
A figure in a dark jacket moved through the building.
Margaret heard footsteps.
Then silence.
A door opened.
She pulled Lily behind her.
Daniel stepped forward.
The man appeared.
Victor Kane.
His face was older than Margaret remembered from the photographs.
He looked exhausted.
Almost broken.
But his eyes were cold.
“You don't understand,” Victor said.
Margaret held Lily tighter.
“You trapped my granddaughter.”
“I didn't.”
Daniel stared at him.
“Then who did?”
Victor looked at Daniel.
“You did.”
Daniel's face went pale.
“What?”
Victor stepped closer.
“You think you remember that night?”
Daniel said nothing.
Victor whispered:
“You were drunk.”
Margaret stared at her son.
And suddenly Daniel remembered.
A door.
A child's laughter.
May you like
Water.
And a decision he had buried deep inside his own mind.
